A real field environment for freshwater, environmental and nature-based projects.

Reselets is open to conversations with universities, research and conservation organisations, environmental technology companies, small and medium-sized enterprises and European project consortia looking for a Bulgarian site with clear management, a local operational contact and a long-term horizon.

Field profile

Field profile and capabilities

Location
Reselets, Cherven Bryag Municipality, Pleven Region, northern Bulgaria.
Type of site
A small managed freshwater reservoir in a natural area with rivers (the Rachene, the Iskar), riparian and forest habitats, protected limestone formations and a Natura 2000 context.
Reservoir status
Public municipal property.
Local reservoir operator
AQUAVIO ltd., under a long-term concession agreement with Cherven Bryag Municipality. AQUAVIO is the concessionaire and operator, not the owner of the reservoir. The Reselets brand is not a legal entity; formal participation in projects takes place only through an eligible legal entity.
Horizon
A long-term concession model and a stable local contact, suited to multi-year projects and long-term monitoring.
Adjacent private parcels
Separate from the municipal reservoir, the person behind the initiative privately owns forest parcels in the area. The main one is cadastral parcel 62503.375.30, about 8,907 m2 of forest territory with broadleaf forest as its permanent use, directly adjacent to the reservoir. Four other parcels lie further upstream and are separate from one another. They are not owned by AQUAVIO and do not form one continuous site around the reservoir. They may be considered for terrestrial monitoring, biodiversity observation, sampling or light, reversible field activity only after a check of the specific parcel, the rights and the applicable forestry and environmental regimes.
Natura 2000 context
Official registers list the territory of Reselets within the Karlukovo protected zone (BG0001014) under the Habitats Directive and the Karlukovski karst protected zone (BG0000332) under the Birds Directive. Applicability to a specific site and activity requires checking the current official boundaries and regimes.
Practical infrastructure
The main private parcel has historically had electricity, water, communications connectivity and existing structures. Whether a specific piece of infrastructure can be used for a project is checked individually according to its current legal, technical and functional status.
Collaboration themes
Water quality and sensors, environmental IoT and telemetry, freshwater ecology, fish populations, extensive aquaculture technology, biodiversity and camera monitoring, eDNA, riparian habitats, nature-based solutions, erosion, low-energy autonomous systems.
Possible roles for Reselets
Field site, observation site, pilot environment, validation environment, demonstration context, local operational contact, field logistics, long-term monitoring and operational feedback, depending on the scope of the project.
Ways to take part
Field visit, observation, sampling or measurements to a partner protocol, long-term equipment deployment, data exchange or local support only, depending on project needs.
Access
Not automatic. It depends on the specific activity, the concession rights, the rights over the specific parcel, environmental requirements, seasonal restrictions and the required permits. Every activity is agreed in advance and for a specific purpose.
What Reselets is not
Not a research institution, a university or an accredited laboratory. Not an automatically permitted test site. Not the owner of the municipal reservoir. It offers no certified testing, scientific staff or guaranteed access.
Who we want to hear from
Universities, research organisations, conservation organisations, environmental technology companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, LIFE partners, Horizon Europe consortia, Interreg partners and other European or national projects.
Programmes of interest
Horizon Europe and Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters, LIFE, Interreg, Eurostars and other relevant applied research and environmental programmes. Naming them describes the kind of collaboration we are looking for, not participation in a funded project.

What kind of environment is available?

The core operational site is a small municipal reservoir managed by a local concession operator. The wider context includes the Rachene River, the Iskar, riparian and forest habitats, protected limestone formations and Natura 2000. In a properly structured project, water observations can be combined with terrestrial context without conflating ownership and rights over the separate sites.

What could be tested or observed?

Water-quality sensors, low-energy environmental sensors and telemetry, remote observation, eDNA and biological surveys, fish populations and habitats, extensive aquaculture technology, camera monitoring of biodiversity, riparian habitats and nature-based solutions. Suitability for a specific technology is not claimed before the project requirements and the permitting implications are understood.

What does a consortium gain from a local partner?

A practical point of contact, operational access within the existing rights, repeatable sampling to a protocol, field logistics, a place to deploy equipment and feedback from real operation. Private parcels are treated separately and take part only where there is a specific legal basis and verified eligibility.

Why does the environmental context matter?

The area includes protected geological sites and Natura 2000 zones. That makes Reselets relevant to environmental research and nature-based solutions, but it also means that design starts from the exact site and the applicable regimes. Early assessment of permitting and environmental requirements is part of the project from the very beginning.

When do we say yes?

When the site has a real role: measuring, testing, observing, demonstrating, replicating or learning over time. When the activity is compatible with the rights over the site and with the nature of the place. And when the result has value for Reselets after the project ends.

How does the conversation start?

With a short message to the project address describing the technical or scientific problem, the name of the project or call, the lead partner, the field activity required, the equipment or intervention, the expected duration and the role of the local partner. We reply within 5 working days.
