Location

A village in Cherven Bryag Municipality, Pleven Region.

The municipality states that the village lies about 6 km from the town of Cherven Bryag. Reselets is the geographic anchor of the wider area: the rivers, the canyon, the rock formations and the reservoir all lie within its territory.

The river

The Rachene runs through the village.

The river is part of the everyday landscape and of local memory. On Yordanovden and Ivanovden the customs take place beside and in the water. According to the municipality the Iskar runs along the whole length of the territory, and the Rachene through the village itself.

Traditions

Kapanki on Ivanovden.

Participants are carried across the Rachene River in a ritual associated locally with health and good fortune. The Bulgarian News Agency documented the custom in Reselets on 7 January 2023. The municipal cultural calendar also includes a festival dedicated to the Reselets water onion, presented here as a local tradition without unsupported claims about protected status or unique botanical characteristics. The calendar also lists Kumichene, a ritual on the Rachene River in April, and places the water-onion festival in September under the motto Golden Autumn in the Village of Reselets.

Water-powered heritage

Watermills and fulling mills.

The municipal development plan lists the mill and fulling mill of Vasil Tsanov Ivanov and the mill of Gercho Petranovski as architectural and construction cultural values. The name Bankovskata watermill is documented in the title of a published local memoir. The exact relationship between these names has not been confirmed, so the website does not equate them or claim a protected status. According to the current owners the Bankovskata watermill has never stopped working and its perilo is still used for washing rugs; its own page keeps that testimony apart from the documented facts.

The village today

Church, school and community centre.

The municipal profile of the village names the Orthodox church of St George, with its temple feast and the village fair on 6 May, Gergyovden; the first cell school of 1820 and today's Otets Paisiy primary school; and the Todor Popov community centre, founded in 1926 according to the profile, in a building of 1971. The community centre also hosts the Hristo Kovachev national festival of song, listed in the municipal cultural calendar for early October.

History

Traces of many eras.

The municipality lists prehistoric and ancient settlements, an ancient fortress, an ancient water-supply feature, burial mounds and a medieval necropolis in the territory of Reselets. Details will be published when a specialist archaeological or museum source supports them.
